Little Peggy March
b. Margaret Battavio, 7 March 1948, Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA. A child prodigy, at the age of five, March was a regular cast member of Rex Trailer's television show. She subsequently won a talent contest, before securing a recording deal with RCA Records. The singer secured her sole million-selling disc in 1963 when "I Will Follow Him" topped the US charts. At the age of 15 she became the youngest person at that time to reach number 1. This memorable song had been adapted from "Chariot", a gold disc in France for British vocalist Petula Clark the previous year. March enjoyed other minor chart entries, most notably with "Hello Heartache, Goodbye Love", her sole UK hit, but she is forever linked to her major success. Moving to Germany in the late 60s, she sang frequently on television shows; as a songwriter, she is credited to two European number 1 hits: "When The Rain Begins To Fall (Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora) and "Manuel Goodbye" (Audrey Landers). She returned to the USA in the 80s. She performed "I Will Follow Him" in the 1987 John Waters film, Hairspray, a tongue-in-cheek homage to pre-Beatles 60s America.
