Into Another
Proffering a melodic brand of intelligent east coast hard rock, Into Another were formed in New York, USA, in 1990, by Richie Birkenhead, formerly a member of hardcore legends Youth Of Today. Additionally comprising Peter Moses (guitar), Tony Bono (bass, ex-Whiplash) and Drew Thomas (drums), the group made its debut with a self-titled collection in 1991. This, and subsequent EPs such as Creepy Eepy and Herbivore, established a musical agenda that drew from the psychedelic metal crossover style of Redd Kross and Urge Overkill. By 1996 and the Seamless album, the group had been made a priority by their record company and enlisted the services of Pearl Jam/Soundgarden producer Rick Parashar in an attempt to develop a fuller, more polished rock sound. Certainly some of the tracks, such as opener "Mutate Me", recalled the sound of grunge, but elsewhere Into Another adopted a more cerebral approach, with Birkenhead's lyrics in particular winning critical praise.
