Not since the days of Kiss have any rockers completely hidden their faces as thoroughly from the public as Slipknot has. Formed in 1996, each member of this nine-man Iowa group hides behind a mask à la Insane Clown Posse. Appealing to the Korn/Limp Bizkit axis, the group churns out some of the most brutal, agitated, noisy rock ever made.

...Slipknot gained fame during the Nu-Metal era which has earned them the title of Nu-Metal in their earlier work...but their later works do have some thrash metal content in them...therefore they're real metal if you think Disturbed and Korn are real metal...if you don't...then they aren't...it really doesn't matter...
