Ricardo Montaner
b. Hector Eduardo Reglero Montaner, 8 September 1957, Valent¡n Alsina, Buenos Aires, Argentina. One of the most enduring Latin pop stars of the late twentieth century, Ricardo Montaner has been rewarded for holding true to the highly commercial romantic ballad style throughout his career. Montaner was raised in Venezuela from the age of seven. He began performing in church choirs as an adolescent before graduating to pop groups in his late teens. He began recording in the late 70s with the independently released Mares. After further independent releases Montaner was signed by the mainstream Venezuelan label Rodven Discos, making his debut for the company in 1982 with Cada Dia. His real breakthrough came in 1987 when two of his songs were placed on the soundtracks of the popular Venezuelan telenovelas Esa Muchacha De Ojos Caf‚ and Enamorada. As a result, "Vamos A Dejarlo" and "Yo Que Te Am‚" both became big national hits and launched Montaner's career. Ricardo Montaner 2 (1988) provided the singer with his first non-Venezuelan hits and established him as a force on the Latin American market.
