Gorilla Biscuits
Perhaps the quintessential band of the New York, USA-based hardcore punk scene of the late 80s, Gorilla Biscuits became highly influential in the space of just one album and EP. Originally comprising Arthur Smilios (bass), Anthony "Civ" Civocelli (vocals), Walter Schreifels (guitar) and Token Entry member Ernie Parada (drums), the band's initial demo was recorded while most of the members were still in high school, and still learning their instruments. Despite this, it was an immediate underground hit, and the band soon graduated to playing all-ages matinee shows at the infamous CBGB's alongside Warzone, Youth Of Today, Bold, Sick Of It All and Underdog. After contributing a track for the New York City Hardcore: The Way It Is compilation, the band (now including drummer Luke) recorded their 1988 eponymous debut for Connecticut hardcore label Revelation Records. Conveying the dynamism of the band's live shows, it was immediately much sought after and although rough around the edges was noticeably more accessible and better crafted than many of their contemporaries efforts.
