Carlos Ponce
b. 4 September 1972, Santurce, Puerto Rico. Interested in the performing arts from early childhood, Ponce appeared on television at the age of six. From his early teens, he lived in Florida, USA, where he attended South Miami High School, studied musical theatre and also appeared on stage. He made television commercials and was also seen in the early 90s in the series Guadalupe. In 1994, he hosted and co-produced Control, bringing him Emmy nominations in both capacities. His first television starring role came in Sentimientos Ajenos (1996). He also sang on the soundtrack of this show and in 1997 was signed to EMI Latin Records. A track from his self-titled debut album, "Rezo', was number 1 on Billboard"s Hot Latin Tracks for nine weeks and also charted in several South American countries. His next single, "Decir Adi¢s", also went to number 1 in Billboard, and the album was selected by the magazine as Album Of The Year. The record went Gold in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela and Central America, and Double Platinum in the USA. This same album brought several other awards, among them the AVE Best Male Artist Of The Year. A single, "Esc£chame', from his next album was also a chart-topper on Billboard"s Hot Latin Tracks. This album went Gold in Venezuela and Platinum in the USA.
