Prong
This US thrash-hardcore rock trio was formed in the mid-80s. Hailing from New York's lower east side, the band originally comprised Tommy Victor (vocals/guitar), Mike Kirkland (vocals/bass) and Ted Parsons (drums), and caused an immediate stir with their first release on the independent Spigot label. Emotionally angry, lyrically brutal, Prong partnered a relentless assault with some fierce guitar-riffing. Their second album for Epic Records, Prove You Wrong, in 1991, was their most significant work to date. By the advent of Cleansed the band had expanded to a four-piece. First they had added ex-Flotsam And Jetsam bass player Troy Gregory (who featured on Prove You Wrong), before recruiting Killing Joke musician Paul Raven, who had previously worked with the band on their Whose Fist Is It Anyway? remix EP. John Bechdel of Murder Inc. additionally expanded the band's sound with his programming and sampling skills. A injury to Raven in 1996 prevented him from working and his replacement was Vince Dennis, loaned from World In Pain, but the band ground to a halt the following year.
