His Name Is Alive
The eclectic Michigan-based ensemble His Name Is Alive is essentially the brainchild of musician/songwriter/producer Warren Defever. In the early 1990s, HNIA began a long-standing relationship with the famed 4AD label after Defever caught the attention of the label with his homemade sound-collage tapes. Since then Defever and his rotating cast of musicians and singers have dabbled in all manner of pop sounds from shoegaze and electronica to straightforward rock and, later, contemporary R&B, a development marked by the addition of gospel vocalist Lovetta Pippen. While HNIA is an ongoing project, in the early 2000s Defever turned his attention to producing and releasing records for others.
