The American Analog Set
Not a lo-fi band (although they have been classified as such in the past), the American Analog Set specialize in a style of laid back pop that would serve as the perfect soundtrack for watching a breezy sunset at the beach. Formed in Fort Worth, Texas, USA in 1995, American Analog Set is comprised largely of ex-members of indie rockers the Electric Company, namely Andrew Kenny (vocals/guitar), Lisa Roschmann (keyboards), and Mark Smith (drums). Bass player Lee Gillespie joined shortly afterwards. After catching the attention of the Emperor Jones label (a subsidiary of King Coffey's Trance Syndicate Records), American Analog Set relocated to Austin in 1996 where they recorded and released their debut, The Fun Of Watching Fireworks, the same year. Two more albums followed for the label, 1997's From Our Living Room To Yours, and 1999's The Golden Band, that were supported with tours alongside outfits such as Mogwai and Death Cab For Cutie. The early twenty-first century saw the band leave Emperor Jones and sign on with Tiger Style, resulting in 2001's critically acclaimed Know By Heart (regarded as their finest album to date) and 2003's Promise Of Love.
