Moonspell
Portugal's best-known gothic black metal band started life in 1989 under the name Morbid God. The line-up of Langsuyar (b. Fernando Ribeiro, 26 August 1974, Lisbon, Portugal; vocals), Ricardo Amorim (guitar), Miguel Gaspar (b. 8 March 1976, Massachusetts, USA; drums), Joao Pedro (bass) and Mantus (guitar) recorded a single, "Serpent Angel" for a compilation issued by the MTM label in their home country. In mid-1992 the band changed its name to Moonspell and recorded a demo, Anno Satanae, which led to a mini-album with the French Adipocere label. Featuring new keyboard player Pedro Paixao (b 15 October 1973, Coimbra, Portugal), Under The Moonspell was a fairly ham-fisted effort but did prove useful in that it attracted the attention of Century Media. Local shows with Cradle Of Filth, Cannibal Corpse and Anathema saw international press focus on Moonspell and Wolfheart was produced by the respected Tiamat producer Waldemar Sorychta.
