Coalesce
Originating from Kansas City, Missouri, USA, Coalesce originally came together as Breach in January 1994 when Jes Steineger (guitar), Stacy Hilt (bass), and James Redd (drums) started playing and writing together, with Sean Ingram (vocals) signing on a few months later. Over the next few years, the newly renamed Coalesce made a reputation for themselves by issuing a steady stream of singles and EPs (the three-track 002 and the five-track Coalesce). Combining elements of hardcore and extreme heavy metal, the quartet drew comparisons to their contemporaries Dillinger Escape Plan and Bloodlet. Redd was subsequently replaced by James DeWees (who had actually auditioned for the band as a vocalist at one point) on further singles and EPs, some of which were split with other outfits, including noise metal heroes Napalm Death, the Get Up Kids, and Converge.
