Idaho
Formed in 1991 by Jeff Martin (b. Jeffrey Stephen Martin, 27 March 1964, USA; guitar, piano, vocals) and John K. Berry, this Los Angeles, California-based alternative rock band has gained frequent comparisons to their US slowcore contemporaries Low and Red House Painters. After signing to the Caroline Records label, Martin and Berry released their debut EP The Palms and the album Year After Year in 1993. The musical blueprint was more extreme than other slowcore bands, with the duo flitting between gentle drone rock and bursts of cathartic screaming and guitar feedback. Berry's struggles with substance abuse saw him sidelined from the band shortly afterwards, with Martin continuing Idaho as a solo project on 1994's This Way Out. By the following year's EP, The Bayonet, he had he put together a four-piece band, with Dan Seta (guitar), Mark Lewis (drums) and Terrence Borden (bass) adding a harder rocking dynamic to the band's music on the EP and the album Three Sheets To The Wind.
