DJ Vadim
Vadim was born in the Soviet Union but moved to London when he was three. After becoming interested in hip-hop, he began to DJ and in 1995 released his first EP, Abstract Hallucinogenic Gases, on his own Jazz Fudge label. Later that year he continued his abstract hip-hop experiments on the EP Headz Ain't Ready, after which he signed to Ninja Tune Records. His first release for Ninja was "Non Lateral Hypothesis" in April 1996, and his debut album, USSR Repertoire, "a crazy selection of minimal hip-hop, ansa machines, musique concrete and the old school", arrived towards the end of the year. His only release of 1997 was the EP Conquest Of The Irrational. While recording for Ninja Tune he has continued to develop "audio research into minimal hip-hop" at Jazz Fudge, with a number of artists and collaborators such as Andre Gurov, Mark B, the Creators, Blade and the Bug. He also DJs around the world, with particular success in Japan, which prompted an album of remixes, USSR Reconstrustion - Theories Explained (1998), featuring work by the Prunes, Kid Koala, the Herbaliser and DJ Krush, among others.
