New Rising Sons
In the early twenty-first century, most groups that fell under the alt rock banner could easily be classified into one of several musical sub genres. This proved not to be the case for a select few, such as the short-lived New Rising Sons. While it is clear that the basis for the band's sound was emo (emotional hardcore), New Rising Sons refused to be pigeonholed, as they let their admiration of Britpop (a prime influence being the Beatles) and jangle pop shine through in their songs. When the New York City, New York, USA-based outfit, Texas Is The Reason, splintered in 1997, Garrett Klahn (vocals/guitar) decided to immediately form another band. Recruiting Drew Thomas (drums, ex-Into Another), as well as Jim Kimball (bass) and Kevin McGinnis (vocals/guitar), New Rising Sons was formed soon afterwards. Although the quartet signed a recording contract with major label Virgin Records, their first few releases, the EPs New Rising Sons (1998) and Thieves And Angels (2000), were issued via the indie label GrapeOS. While it seemed like everything was in place for the band to obtain success, New Rising Sons split up in 2000, before ever being able to issue an album.
