Joaquin Sabina
b. 12 February 1949, Ubeda, Ja‚n, Spain. In his early teens Sabina wrote poetry and composed music, developing friendships that gradually brought him into conflict not only with his father, a policeman, but also with the Spanish government, then a dictatorship ruled by General Francisco Franco. In 1968, Sabina attended the University of Granada, but then fled to London. There, he composed and sang in pubs and clubs until 1977 when he returned to post-Franco Spain, where he joined the army. Meanwhile, his musical ambitions began to be realized with successful recordings, including the number 1 hit "Pongamos Que Hablo De Madrid". His political ideals had not been forgotten and Sabina continued to express his views through his writing. His reputation in Spain secure, he made successful tours of South America in the late 80s and early 90s.
