Jimmy Bosch
b. 18 October 1959, Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Born into a Puerto Rican family, Bosch began playing the trombone at the age of 11 and made his public debut four years later. He subsequently played with many of the leading USA-based Latin/salsa artists including Manny Oquendo's Libre, Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, Rubn Blades, La India and Celia Cruz. He is currently musical director and featured soloist for Marc Anthony. A respected musician and cultural icon for New York's Latino community, he made his debut as a bandleader at SOB's club, New York City, in March 1996. Soneando Trombon, his debut album, was released in 1998 and featured a big band, including well-known Latin musicians (trumpeter Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros, bassist Andy Gonzalez and vocalists Jimmy Sabater and Pete "El Conde" Rodr¡guez), playing a mix of Latin styles, including the "salsa dura" ("hard salsa"), of which Bosch is a leading exponent. His follow-up, Salsa Dura, featured guests Steve Turre and Chucho Valdes and was as diverse and hard driving as the debut album.
