Geno Delafose
b. 12 August 1972, Eunice, Louisiana, USA. Delafose was born into a musical family. His father was zydeco singer/accordionist John Delafose, who formed the Eunice Playboys in the mid-70s, a band that included guitarist Charlie Prudhomme. By the end of the decade Geno was playing in the band on drums and rub board. Also in the band at one time or another were his uncle, Slim Delafose (bass), and his brothers John "T.T." Delafose (rub board), and Tony Delafose (drums). The band played traditional Creole and Cajun music and was very popular among local dancers. Through the 80s, Delafose's role in the band increased in importance; in addition to playing percussion he also sang and learned to play the accordion. In the early 90s, with his father's health deteriorating, he began fronting the band and became leader in 1994. By this time, Delafose had become a virtuoso accordionist and was equally skilled on the button and piano form of the instrument.
