Jaguares
Highly successful Mexican rock band formed in 1995 by Sa£l Hern ndez (b. Sa£l Alfonso Hern ndez Estrada, 15 January 1964, Mexico; vocals) and Alfonso Andr‚ (b. 22 August 1962; drums). The duo had previously played together in popular Mexico City art rockers Caifanes and was joined in their new enterprise by Jose Manuel Aguilera (guitar) and Federico Fong (bass). The quartet recorded their debut El Equilibrio De Los Jaguares the following year and, despite Hern ndez still suffering the effects of recent vocal chord surgery, Jaguares enjoyed immediate success with a single taken from the album, "Detr s De Los Cerros'. The album marked out the Jaguares" blueprint, blending U2-style rock with mystical lyrics courtesy of chief songwriter Hern ndez. A number of personnel changes followed with Sabo Romo (bass), C‚sar L¢pez (b. 19 March 1968, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; guitar, ex-Man ) and Javier "Jarris" Margalli (guitar) replacing the departed Aguilera and Fong. The 1999 double album Bajo El Azul De Tu Misterio was an ambitious recording that featured a disc of live versions of Jaguares and Caifanes hits alongside a separate disc of new studio tracks. A slimmed down line-up featuring Hern ndez, Andr‚ and L¢pez completed the 2001 follow-up Cuando La Sangre Galopa. With H‚rnandez and Andr‚ producing their own work for the first time, the album steered Jaguares into fully-fledged stadium rock territory and spawned the hit "Como T£". The band also began to make waves on the North American market for the first time, with their impassioned live performances opening the eyes of many concert goers unfamiliar with Latin rock. The 2002 album El Primer Instinto featured acoustic recordings of the band's greatest hits.
