Blue Highway
Formed in 1994, this contemporary bluegrass group comprises Tim Stafford (b. Kingsport, Tennessee, USA; guitar, vocals), Wayne Taylor (bass, vocals), Rob Ickes (b. 26 May 1967, San Mateo, California, USA; dobro), Shawn Lane (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), and Jason Burleson (b. 7 December 1967, USA; banjo, guitar, mandolin). Blue Highway proved to be very popular with audiences and also made an impact on other musicians of the genre. All of the band's members helped compose the material on their numerous recordings, and all are sought-after sidemen for recording artists, especially in Nashville. Ickes has played with Dolly Parton, Earl Scruggs and Ricky Skaggs and others; Lane played with Skaggs and Doyle Lawson; Stafford with Alison Krauss' Union Station. Highly regarded and often referred to as a bluegrass supergroup, Blue Highway has been nominated for a Grammy Award, and has won a Dove Award as well as numerous International Bluegrass Music Association awards.
