Leo Sayer
Known for his tuneful soft rock and bushy hairdo, British songwriter Leo Sayer had a smattering of Top 10 hits on both sides of the Atlantic during the 1970s. After years of busking, and a stint as a songwriter for other acts, Sayer made a go of a singing career; his mix of winsome charm and melodic sophistication struck just the right tone with mid-70s pop audiences. His biggest hit in the U.S. was the '76 proto-disco confection "You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'," after which he enjoyed some further success and quietly became a symbol of mellow, Have A Nice Day-style pop. A late-'90s comeback proved moderately successful, especially in the U.K.
