Vibraphonic
Formed in 1990 by vibraphonist Roger Beaujolais (b. Roger Downham, 22 November 1942, Harrogate, Yorkshire, England), this UK-based acid jazz group has enjoyed notable success in the USA. Tony Remy (guitar), Nick Cohen (bass), Richard Marcangelo (programming, percussion), Mark Lockheart (saxophone, flute), John Eacott (trumpet), and Alison Limerick (b. 1959, London, England; vocals) joined Beaujolais in the initial line-up. Debuting on the Acid Jazz Records compilation Totally Wired 6 with the track "I See You", Vibraphonic released their self-titled debut album in 1993. With Lennox Cameron (vocals) and Pete Lewinson (drums) added to the line-up, American radio began to pick up on the group with the release of the single "Can't Get Enough' from 1995"s Vibraphonic 2, and they switched to the US label Hollywood Records for two further albums, the seasonal A Vibraphonic Christmas (1996) and On A Roll (1997). By this time, Dave Priseman (trumpet) and Dennis Rollins (trombone) had been added to the line-up to replace the departing Eacott. The 2000 recording Acid Jazzizms, on the StayTuned label, featured Frank Tontoh (drums) and Sean Corby (trumpet) in place of Lewinson, Rollins and Priseman, with Antonia and Michael Pagulatos introducing violin and viola into the group's slick, club-orientated sound.
