Chico Cesar
b. Francisco Csar Gonalves, 26 January 1964, Catol Do Rocha, Paraiba, Brazil. Csar was born into a large and poor family of farm workers. Owing to a scholarship, his parents were able to secure an education for him, a comparative rarity among impoverished rural Brazilians. He learned to read and write and before he reached his teens was writing songs. One composition won him a guitar, and he continued to make music while attending a course in journalism. He moved to Sao Paulo in the mid-80s and worked there for a while as a journalist, meanwhile developing a following for his songwriting and also for his singing, performing in clubs and at concert venues. He toured and performed in Germany at the start of the 90s and soon thereafter became a full-time professional musician. He made his recording debut in 1995 and his following expanded greatly thereafter.
