Exodus
Formed in San Francisco, USA, in 1980, Exodus were one of the earliest thrash metal bands. Their first line-up included future Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett (b. 18 November 1962, San Francisco, California, USA), though he did not record with the band. Their 1985 debut Bonded By Blood was a landmark in the thrash arena, with a highly aggressive musical and lyrical approach, dealing with all manner of extremes and brutalities. It was recorded by the line-up of Paul Baloff (b. 25 April 1960, USA, d. 2 February 2002, USA; vocals), Gary Holt (b. 4 May 1964, Richmond, California, USA; guitar), Rick Hunolt (guitar), Rob McKillop (bass) and Tom Hunting (drums). Vocalist Steve Sousa replaced Baloff (who formed Piranha) for 1987's Pleasures Of The Flesh, which was marginally more mellow, but still a daunting proposition.
