Johnny Vicious
The proprieter of New York's Vicious Muzik label, Johnny Vicious is one of the most exciting up-and-coming producer/remixers on the circuit. A rock 'n' roller who became bored of rock music after he heard Tony Humphries on Kiss FM, he was championed by Junior Vasquez in his early days. His career proper began with tunes like "Liquid Bass" and "Frozen Bass", before reworking the Loletta Holloway standard "Dreaming" as "Stand Up" (released in the UK by Six By Six, the label being licensed to the Network umbrella organisation). This demonstrated his technique, which was essentially slicing up old disco classics in an alarmingly cavalier fashion and producing a punk disco hybrid. 1994 records like JV verus MFSB's "TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia)" (another disco chestnut) continued his ascendency and cult status.
