Joey Powers
b. 1939, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Powers reached the charts once with the singalong folkish tune "Midnight Mary". His family knew singing star Perry Como, who secured a job for Powers on a television keep-fit, exercise programme. Powers then taught wrestling at a university for a short time. By 1962, he was signed to RCA Records, the label for which Como recorded, but none of the songs he released became hits. The following year Powers met songwriters Artie Wayne and Ben Raleigh and they worked on their song "Midnight Mary' together. Released on Amy Records in January 1964, the single peaked at number 10, just in time to see Powers" career cut short by the onslaught of "Beatlemania". All of his subsequent recordings failed to chart and he never made an album.
