The Caravelles
Former office workers Lois Wilkinson (b. 3 April 1944, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England) and Andrea Simpson (b. 1946) achieved international success with their distinctive version of "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry'. This light, breathy single reached the UK Top 10 in August 1963 where it formed an antidote to the more powerful, emergent British beat. Despite touring the USA, where the single was a number 3 hit, the duo was unable to maintain a consistent profile in spite of recording several excellent, if novelty-bound releases. Wilkinson began a solo career as Lois Lane, while Simpson maintained the Caravelles" name with a series of replacements and was actively performing throughout the 80s.
