Death Angel
This group was formed in San Francisco, California, USA, the home of the Bay Area "thrash" phenomenon, in 1982. The band consisted of five cousins, namely Mark Osegueda (vocals), Rob Cavestany (guitar), Gus Pepa (guitar), Dennis Pepa (bass) and Andy Galeon (drums). Their debut, The Ultra-Violence, was a brutal blend of high-speed thrash riffs and thunderous drums. The band quickly followed it with Frolic Through The Park in 1988, which showed that the band had progressed both musically and lyrically, although many preferred the outright carnage of their opening salvo. Death Angel experienced internal problems but managed to pull through, signing to Geffen Records after touring with Mot”rhead, and releasing the highly acclaimed Act III in 1990. However, while touring to promote the latter album their bus crashed in the early hours of the morning in the middle of the desert between Phoenix and Las Vegas. Drummer and youngest member Andy Galeon was critically hurt, and took more than a year to recover. Unfortunately, their problems escalated with the departure of vocalist Mark Osegueda, who was not prepared to remain inactive during Galeon's recuperation. The other members, with their recovered cousin and drummer, became the Organization.
