Space Raiders
The Space Raiders is a UK avant garde dance music act, signed to the Brighton-based Skint Records, home to Fatboy Slim. The band comprises Mark Hornby, Gary Bradford and Martin Jenkins, who had all followed a long and strange musical career, forming various leftfield bands. Jenkins' interest was initially in the techno and breakbeat styles and he was part of the Leicester-based sound system, News Of The Future that performed at clubs such as Peek and Zen Masters. He also developed a solo act, Kong King. Hornby trained as a nurse and belonged to a Velvet Underground covers band, Can't Be Arsed. Having known each other for many years, they formed the Space Raiders in Middlesbrough, Cleveland in 1997 and secured a deal with Skint Records in the same year. Their 1999 debut included the club favourites "Glam Raid" and "Song For Dot". The follow-up Hot Cakes eschewed the party anthems for a more eclectic approach.
