UTFO
Their initials standing for Untouchable Force Organization, Brooklyn, New York, USA-based U.T.F.O. was formed in 1982 by Doctor Ice (b. Fred Reeves) and the Kangol Kid (b. Shawn Fequiere), both concurrently breakdancers for Whodini, with the Educated Rapper (b. Jeffrey Campbell) and Mix Master Ice (b. Maurice Bailey). Their second single, 1985's "Roxanne, Roxanne", set the New York City rap kids alight as they complained of an unobliging female, over a rhythm track built from Billy Squier's "The Big Beat', and produced by Full Force. It would see an answer record from Roxanne Shant‚ that outsold their own version, and a whole industry that grew up around the phenomenon (the Real Roxanne, the Original Roxanne, and Sparky D). The Educated Rapper was missing on U.T.F.O.'s second album, Skeezer Pleezer. The trio turned to rock/rap crossover for 1987"s Lethal, before reggae and swingbeat took over on their later work. Nothing, however, managed to replicate the success of their landmark single. Bag It & Bone It looked to crude sexual rhymes for sales but even that missed that boat. The quartet decided to call it a day, with Doctor Ice going on to release several solo albums.
