Gary Allan's place in contemporary country is an interesting one. His rugged good looks and crisply produced albums position him as a Nashville player, but his gritty honky-tonk inspired songs are perhaps a little too authentic for the soccer-mom crowd. A country music journeyman, Allan was nominated for the 2003 Country Music Association's Horizon award for best newcomer, despite nearly a decade in the business and several Top Ten country singles. However one chooses to view Gary Allan, there's no denying that he has become a true country-music superstar. His first greatest-hits package was released in 2007and debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200.
