Nothingface
One of countless rock bands that emerged during the mid- to late 90s, combining elements of heavy metal, hardcore, and alt rock. Originating from Washington, DC, USA, the quartet, Matt Holt (vocals), Tom Maxwell (guitar), Bill Gaal (bass), and Chris Houck (drums) formed in 1995, and barely two years later, had already issued their debut album, 1997's Pacifier. Another independent album followed in 1998, An Audio Guide To Everyday Atrocity, before Nothingface signed a major label recording contract with TVT Records. Nothingface's debut for their new label, Violence, followed in 2000, and although it proved to be their most popular release yet (the album track "Bleeder" even received some regular plays on US radio), a tumultuous time lay ahead for the band. In the space of a single year (2000/1), Nothingface saw their entire rhythm section depart, as newcomers Jerry Montano (bass) and Tommy Sickles (drums) joined Holt and Maxwell. Further change occurred when Gaal returned to the line-up with the abrupt departure of Montano. The line-up fluctuation did not derail the band however, with their 2003 effort, Skeletons, becoming their highest charting album on the Billboard charts.
