Monte Warden
This US singer-songwriter first appeared on the country scene as part of the Wagoneers, the neo-rockabilly band he formed with guitarist Brent Wilson, bass player Craig Pettigrew and drummer Tom Lewis in 1986. Their debut Stout And High included a guest appearance from Herb Alpert (founder of A&M Records who released the album) and they had moderately successful singles with "I Want To Know Her Again" and "Every Step Of The Way". The Wagoneers never fulfilled their potential and a third album was shelved, largely because of disagreements between Warden and Lewis. Warden then signed an abortive deal with RCA Records before forming Monte Warden And The Lone Sharks, working with the drummer and producer Mas Palermo on two albums for Watermelon Records. His songs were also recorded by artists such as Kelly Willis, George Jones and Patty Loveless. He signed to Asylum Nashville in 1998 following the closure of Watermelon, and began a new phase in his career and personal life with the release of A Stranger To Me Now, an album inspired by his marriage break-up.
