Chad Brock
b. 31 July 1963, Ocala, Florida, USA. Physically imposing country singer Chad Brock, the son of a railway worker and schoolteacher, made a big impact at the end of the 90s with the release of a self-titled debut album that incorporated four hit singles ("Evangeline", "Ordinary Life", "Lightning Does The Work" and "You Made A Liar Out Of Me'). However, he was keen to stress that his success was no flash in the pan, pointing to a musical apprenticeship which began almost a decade earlier. At school he had been offered a football scholarship, but turned it down in favour of music, guided by high school teacher Florence Gabriel Reese " to whom he dedicated his debut album. In 1992, he moved to Nashville, and while struggling to get work was briefly part of the World Championship Wrestling federation. This career was ended, however, by an untimely injury when he tore his inner thigh muscle. Instead he secured a record deal via fellow Ocalan, David Mullen, who recommended him to Warner Brothers Records. A selection of outside writers sent tapes for the ensuing project, although "Lightning Does The Work' was one of three songs on the completed album he helped to write. An updated version of Hank Williams Jnr."s "A Country Boy Can Survive", which topped the Billboard country chart, preceded his well received sophomore collection, Yes!.
