Oliver Lieb
b. 1969, Germany. Since the early 90s the Frankfurt, Germany-based Lieb has steadily crept his way into the premier ranks of DJ/producers. With an eclectic approach embracing house, techno, electro and the less able to categorize, electronica, he has released more than 200 tracks, comprising reworks of tracks from artists including Snap!, Sven V„th, Yello, Sparks, the Human League and Mory Kant‚. His success has been in part due to his idiosyncratic production ethos, eschewing the ubiquitous 303 and 909 so favoured in dance music since the advent of acid house, and using a wide range of analogue equipment such as oscillators and Korgs to keep the bass deep, in a bid to stretch sonic boundaries set by himself. This love of the deeper range of sound waves stems from his musical background as a bass player in funk and soul bands before discovering electronica through hearing music by artists such as Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre.
