Cyclefly
This European metal outfit were formed in 1995 from the ashes of French band Seventeen. The multi-national trio, Christian Montagne (b. France; bass), Jean Michel Cavallo (b. France; drums), and Nono Presta (b. Italy; guitar), decamped to Ireland where they linked up with brothers Ciaran (b. Aghada, County Cork, Eire; guitar) and Declan O'Shea (b. 18 May 1972, Aghada, County Cork, Eire; vocals). Declan's manic stage presence earned the band as much notice as their music, which fused the energy of US industrial rock with a keen melodic sensibility, earning comparisons to alternative rock legends Jane's Addiction and Smashing Pumpkins. Several showcase gigs in London confirmed their live ability, and led to a deal with Radioactive Records. Taking a break from their touring schedule, the band relocated to California to work on their debut album with the experienced producer Sylvia Massy. The moody, angst-ridden Generation Sap earned the band uniformly positive reviews when it was released in May 1999.
