finetune artist: Catie Curtis

b. Saco, Maine, USA. Folk singer-songwriter Curtis first started out as a drummer, before switching to guitar in time to perform at coffee houses during a college stint at Brown University. She began her recording career in 1989 with Dandelion, on the independent Mongoose label, following it up two years later with From Years To Hours. Both sets spotlighted the musical ingredients that Curtis would soon become renowned for; feminist lyrics merged with a bare bones (usually just voice, guitar, bass, and drums) musical accompaniment. It was at this time that Curtis gave up her job as a social worker to concentrate on music. She signed a contract with Guardian Records shortly after releasing 1995's Truth From Lies, gaining a bigger recording budget for her next, self-titled album, produced by Bruce Springsteen associate Roy Bittan. The album's first single, "Soulfully", received quite a bit of attention on US Triple-A radio, which led to tours with Mary-Chapin Carpenter and as part of the multi-artist Lilith Fair festival, in addition to winning the Best Album Award from the Gay And Lesbian American Music Awards.
