Pat Green
b. 5 April 1972, San Antonio, Texas, USA. This Willie Nelson-inspired country singer-songwriter who grew up in Waco, was a self-made star in his home state of Texas prior to winning a major label recording contract at the start of the new millennium. Raised in Waco, Texas, Green was inspired to take up music by his actor father. He began performing his own material on stage while in college at Texas Tech in Lubbock, and by the mid-90s had built up enough of a following to launch his recording career. Dancehall Dreamer, on Green's Greenhorse label, was the first of several independent releases that established the singer as one of the biggest draws on the Texas dancehall circuit. Regularly performing in front of thousands of fans the major labels inevitably took an interest in Green, leading to a contract with Republic/Universal Records. His Universal debut, 2001's Three Days, included a guest appearance from Green's hero, Willie Nelson, on the stand-out track "Threadbare Gypsy Soul". Green also performs regularly with fellow Texas-based singer-songwriter, Cory Morrow. Green continues to perform for most of the year building a strong core of fans (in 2004 he performed over 200 gigs).
