finetune artist: Chalee Tennison

b. 11 April 1969, Texas, USA. Since settling in Nashville, Tennessee, in the late 90s, Tennison has made a considerable impression on those who feared that country music might be in danger of being overrun by neophytes with little or no experience of the real world outside their songs. Having formerly been a manual worker in the construction industry, Tennison, a single mother of three, has a blue-collar background that well suits the songs she sings. Add in her other work experience, as a prison guard with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and it is clear that Tennison knows the difference between real and imagined loss. Drilling into her personal experience, she writes songs that deal with heartbreak but without self-pity and with a clear sense that she is someone with a formidable sense of survival. These elements are aurally apparent in the plaintive yet tough sound of her voice.
