Splender
Although musical tags such as hard rock and alternative have been used to describe this New York, USA-based quartet, the band is truly a pop outfit driven by singer Waymon Boone's gift for melody. Born in New York but raised in Montreal, Canada, Boone has been around music his entire life (his mother was a R&B singer), and he began singing and playing in bands at a very early age. After relocating back to New York City, Boone hooked up with east coast natives Jonathan Svec (guitar/vocals), James Cruz (bass/vocals), and Marc Slutsky (drums), leading to the formation of Splender in 1994. Before they even had a record in the stores, the fledgling band had already opened for Primus and Korn, which eventually led to a contract with Sony in 1998. With power pop master Todd Rundgren producing, Splender spent two months recording tracks at Rundgren's Utopia Studios in Bearsville, New York. Early 1999 saw the release of Halfway Down The Sky, that featured two popular US radio hits, "Yeah, Whatever" and "I Think God Can Explain". Splender took their time coming up with a follow-up, with To Whom It May Concern eventually appearing on new label J Records three years later.
