David Allan Coe
As one of the most colorful proponents of the 1970s Outlaw Country scene (alongside Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, et al.), David Allan Coe helped create a new image for country music. An outrageous, hard-living, larger-than-life character who had reportedly done time for murder, Coe fused his love for traditional honky-tonk country with a no-holds-barred rock-&-roll attitude. He scored hits on his own, but his songs were also smashes for Tanya Tucker, Johnny Paycheck, and others. As an outlaw icon, he's inspired both country singers like Travis Tritt and rockers like Kid Rock.
