Chavez
This alternative rock band was formed in the Lower Manhattan district of New York, USA, in the early 90s. Their far-reaching influences ranged from the Krautrock of Can and Faust to the more traditional hard rock stance of Cheap Trick. The band's dissonance was summarized by lead guitarist and singer Matt Sweeney in 1996 when he told Billboard magazine: "It's not like we're out to deconstruct rock. But when we started the band, we had an agreement that we wouldn't play anything that sounded like something we'd heard before." The band, which also featured Clay Tarver (guitar), James Lo (bass) and Scott Masciarelli (bass), were all veterans of the alternative rock circuit, boasting prior membership of outfits including Bullet Lavolta, Skunk, Live Skull and Wider.
