Radar Bros.
This Los Angeles, California, USA-based trio, who blend the melodic ache of Lemonheads-styled pop with the sparsity of country rock, first attracted attention with the release of a six-track mini-album debut for Fingerpaint Records in 1995. It was quickly followed by a full-length debut of the same title on Restless Records. The band's songs are written by the doleful Jim Putnam (b. 30 September 1967, Hollywood, California, USA), a veteran of both Medicine and Maids Of Gravity. In the mid-90s, he recruited bass player Senon Williams and drummer Steve Goodfriend and set about recording his own songs, based on ideas that had been in his head for some time. The intimate, deeply personalized results were much admired in the press, particularly for their temperate emotional pacing, one of the band's most distinctive qualities.
