Sue Thompson
b. Eva Sue McKee, 19 July 1926, Nevada, Missouri, USA. Thompson's earliest ambition was to be a singing cowgirl, and she sang at many local functions. She continued performing when the family moved to California and she appeared regularly on her husband Dude Martin's country television show in San Francisco. A single with Martin, "If You Want Some Lovin'", led to a solo contract with Mercury Records. In 1960, she sang on Red Foley's portion of the Grand Ole Opry and she signed with the country label Hickory. John D. Loudermilk wrote "Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)" and "Norman", which went to numbers 5 and 3, respectively, on the US pop charts and both became million-sellers. Boudleaux and Felice Bryant wrote another US hit, "Have A Good Time", and Loudermilk returned with the novelties "James (Hold The Ladder Steady)" and "Paper Tiger".
