The A's
This minor new wave band from Philadelphia, USA, recorded two albums for Arista Records in 1979 and 1981, but failed to make a significant impression. The group consisted of singer Richard Bush, his songwriting partner Rocco Notte (keyboards), Rick DiFonzo (guitar), Terry Bortman (bass) and Mike Snyder (drums). The A's built a reputation on the east coast club scene with a strong power pop sound and an energetic, goodtime stage show. Their self-titled debut album was praised by Rolling Stone but failed to excite the record-buying public. The follow-up, A Woman's Got The Power, produced by Nick Garvey of the Motors, found the band taking a more serious approach and reached the lower rungs of the US album chart. The band broke up in the early 80s.
