Murray Head
b. 5 March 1946, London, England. Murray Head's long career began in 1965 with a series of folk-rock recordings for Columbia Records, including versions of "He Was A Friend Of Mine" and "The Bells Of Rhymney". Briefly signed to the Immediate Records label, for which he completed "She Was Perfection", Head later found fame playing Judas in the cast of the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. He enjoyed a US Top 20 hit in 1971 with a song from the show, "Superstar". Head later divided his talents between acting and singing, but drew plaudits for his emotional song, "Say It Ain't So Joe" which proved highly popular in Europe and has since become a much-covered standard. He returned to the stage as "The American" in Chess, and enjoyed belated chart success in 1984 when his single from the show, "One Night In Bangkok", reached number 12 in the UK and number 3 in the US. Head's forte now resides in this particular field of performance.
