Formed in Akron, Ohio, USA, Tin Huey was a sextet revolving around the talents of Chris Butler (guitar) and Ralph Carney (saxophones). Their eclectic talents were a m‚lange of pop, jazz and progressive styles, blending the cynicism of Frank Zappa with an awareness of 70s British rock. Indeed their version of "I'm A Believer" owes a debt to Robert Wyatt's rearrangement rather than the Monkees' original. Contents Dislodged During Shipment is a superb example of postmodern pop, adding cultural references and surrealist twists to stimulating and varied music. This experimental set was not a commercial success and Tin Huey split up in 1980. Carney then formed the Swollen Monkeys with Mark Kramer, later of Bongwater and Shimmy-Disc Records. They were subsequently joined by Daved Hild in the short-lived Carney-Hild-Kramer, who issued Happiness Finally Came To Them in 1987. Chris Butler created the Waitresses, who re-recorded two Tin Huey songs, "I Could Rule The World If I Could Only Get The Parts" and "Christmas Wrapping".
