The Flying Lizards
The brainchild of pianist David Cunningham, the Flying Lizards were a novelty UK act with a difference, taking and subverting classic pop songs in a unique and striking fashion. In the summer of 1979, they reached the UK Top 5 with an spoken, arrogant upper-middle class, English accent-version of the Berry Gordy classic, "Money". The changing line-up, which included Julian Marshall, Deborah Evans-Stickland, Patti Paladin, Peter Gordan and Steve Beresford on Fourth Wall, enabled Cunningham to pursue his love of electronic pop. The Times newspaper writer and ambient experimentalist David Toop was part of the line-up at one point.
