Marianne Faithfull
In the heady days of swinging London, Marianne Faithfull was a sex kitten/wispy-voiced waif singing orchestral-pop versions of Rolling Stones songs (she had a highly publicized relationship with Mick Jagger at the time). In the late '70s, she re-emerged as a shockingly blunt post-punk feminist. More recently, she's turned into a post-modern cabaret singer, sort of a 21st-century version of Lotte Lenya, feted and occassionally assisted by such acolytes as Nick Cave and PJ Harvey.
