Liquid Soul
Formed in 1994 by saxophonist Mars Williams (b. 1955, Chicago, Illinois, USA), this Chicago-based band offered fans of 70s soul and funk a contemporary slant on the music. Not content with drawing in an older audience, their incorporation of hip-hop assured them also of a youthful element in their fanbase. The musical ingredients did not end there; touches of hard-edged post-bop acid jazz rubbed congenial shoulders with softer Latin jazz in a repertoire that constantly made nonsense of labelling.
