Gota
London, England-based jazz/funk group Gota And The Low Dog are led by Japanese drummer and multi-instrumentalist Gota Yashiki. A veteran of sessions with Simply Red, Sinead O'Connor and Soul II Soul, he formed the band, originally called Gota And The Heart Of Gold, with Warren Dowd (vocals), Kenji Jammer (guitar) and Yolanda Charles (bass). Somethin' To Think About, their 1994 debut album, featured a pleasant blend of funk and soul influences, with a high quality of musicianship throughout. High Wired Electro drew its aesthetic from the 70s/80s electro hybrid of hip-hop, with several instrumentals and disorientating free-form jazz sketches similar to the more experimental work of Herbie Hancock. It included the single "Hey Bulldog", a rare cover version of the Beatles' song from the film Yellow Submarine. Yashiki released his solo debut in 1997.
